When you are going to want your puppy to go to the bathroom outside, do not start training them to go inside first just because it is more convenient, at some point you will need to retrain them to go outside.
You do need to know that your new puppy will have “accidents” inside where they are not supposed to go. When this does happen, and it will, have them smell what they did and then take them to the proper place for them to do their business. Make sure that the mess gets cleaned up quickly and entirely, or you risk them going back to that spot again.
If you are just learning how to potty train a puppy for the first time, schedules are very important. Feed him or her at the same time every day. Water should be kept out until a few hours before bedtime, puppies will drink a lot of water so be prepared to take them out or put them on the pad as soon as they are done drinking. Do each time they get done eating too and pretty soon they will elarn.
Try not to play with your puppy when you bring them to their bathroom place until after they go to the bathroom. If they do not go take them away from their place but bring them back shortly wait until they go and try to use the same words like” potty time”. If you ever see your puppy sniffing around the house chances are they have to go to the bathroom.
When learning how to potty train a puppy keep in mind that they need to go to the bathroom after a nap, after playing, last thing at night and frist thing in the morning. If you hear them moving around a lot at night they might need to go than also.
If you must leave your puppy home alone you should confine them to an area that can be cleaned easily in case of an accident. If necessary, get a plastic gate and put it in the doorway. When you are training your dog to go on pads, place them in the area with their wee wee pads. Always take your dog out when you get home.
Remember that when you know how to potty train a puppy it will be easier. It will take a lot of time but it is worth it. You will have a friend forever with a well trained dog.
