When you think of imposing some dog training tips, be sure that you remember the time and patience it takes to complete. Certainly, when you train a dog, you need to invest time and effort especially when training a dog like Shih Tzu. If you are not patient enough and failed to do the proper training methods, your dog can become stubborn and hard to command. Basically, in training a dog, what you are trying to achieve is to let your dog learn do things which are allowed to do and avoid things which are not allowed to do. It is so important for your dog to learn its limitations and boundaries. He will become a well behaved pet once it recognizes its boundaries. Your dog can provide you with love and affection and will follow your commands only if you have trained him well. You dog can be indeed your best friend with good guidance.
Getting your Pet’s Attention
To get your dog’s attention, use your pet’s name. Every time you call it to play, to walk with you, or to be fed, always use its name. This way you can develop a good orientation response from your pet. Remember that you need patience here especially if you have just given your dog a name. Call your dog by its name at least 10 times a day and never punish your dog if he doesn’t listen as you call its name.
Practicing your Dog to Obey
At the early beginnings of dog training, commanding your pet can be quite difficult to get done. In order to complete this step, you need to spend time every day implementing commands for your dog. Always try to enforce authority every time you are commanding him to do something. But don’t over repeat the commands. Make sure you have a list of different commands which you can use everyday alternatively. And be observant at your dog’s behavior; be guided by it particularly when your dog is at the initial stage of its training.
Rewarding your Dog
Every time your dog has correctly performed a command, reward it or praise it. Rewards and appreciations are very effective at making your dog feel good that they tend to follow your commands appropriately. Your dog will feel happy while on training and slowly establishes a friend and loving relationship with you. Practice this praising your dog and make it a good habit. But avoid getting your dog spoiled. Otherwise, it will be very difficult for you to let it follow commands.
Penalizing your Dog
Penalizing doesn’t necessarily mean to punish. When you penalize your dog, you don’t have to punish it or scold it especially when it is under training. Punishments create bad impression and negative feelings which can result to your dog’s stubbornness. Penalize is simply to do things which your dog doesn’t like. One of the most effective penalizing methods is leash jerk which your dog doesn’t really like. Or you may also ignore your dog until it realizes its mistake. The longer you ignore your dog, the more it tries to catch your attention and act like its ready for the training and for your commands.
It is actually not that difficult to train a dog. If you are passionate enough and very determined to have an obedient and loving dog, every step can be so much easy for you. Dog training tips are not just to make your dog good at following your commands, but also to establish an amiable relationship between you and your pet.
