The characteristics of appearance and behavior of dogs are the bases on how to classify the dog breeds and this is according also to the lineage or the origin of their sets of ancestors. How to categorized dog breeds are based on the usage or functions of the dogs, such as; tracking dogs, hunting dogs, guard dogs, dogs for cold environment or for sleds and a pet type. Classifications of dog breeds are not always based on this way.
